Principal Beth Herlihy and Assistant Principal Jake Bultema strongly support the Responsive Classroom approach being used in all Newton Schools. They have embraced the idea of “grit,” or one’s ability to persevere through adversity and believe that teaching students to have grit will equip them to navigate the academic, social, and emotional demands of the 21st century.

Ms. Herlihy will be hosting a year-long series of discussion of the best-selling book Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by MacArthur Scholar Angela Duckworth.
